What bores you to death and what ramps up your adrenaline level? Going with the flow can be pretty boring. I love to ride my bike in the city. Fast. Ignoring red lights on crossroads (sometimes, haha). Riding close to objects. Pushing your adrenaline level can be real fun.
What’s your current object of desire, and what really moves you? To beat the climb of the infamous Mont Ventoux this month. Makin’ moves moves me.
What gadget is indispensable and which application always has a solution? My technics 1210er are indispensable. I can trust them and they will run forever.
There is an app called “Streichholz ziehen” If you don’t find a solution – grab a “Streichholz”.
Which website do you visit frequently? Whom do you meet offline? Honestly, vimeo.com is the place to go. Sometimes it’s really hard to keep updated because so many new videos are uploaded every day. But a perfect day should start and end with a nice video which reminds us of the reason why we’re working in this field of work. Cause we simply love beautiful things. I love to meet friends in personal. All day long we’re staring at displays whether it’s a computer or cellphone display. It’s a refreshing feeling to turn it off and enjoy analogue things. If it’s cooking or playing some music. In my opinion it can be really efficient and satisfying to work with friends or colleagues on ideas which are not limited by the speed of the internet. Offline is not as bad as it seems.
What books and music are you enjoying at the moment? What are the works you wouldn’t want anyone to miss? Currently I’m into „Come into my kitchen“ which is a book about the early techno scene of frankfurt. It gives a clear image about how and why everything started and how the club „Robert Johnson“ became one of the best in the world. It also topics the quest to create „the“ perfect sound. (You can grab a copy here: http://liveatrobertjohnson.com). The works of Stefan Marx (Illustrator), Salt & Silver (Creators of Travel and Cook Books), Lobster Theremin (Label), Forbidden Planet (Label), Larry Clarke (Director), Massimiliano Pagliara (Musician). I think there is too much worth mentioning.

Woher kommst du und wohin willst du? Vom Hafen auf die Insel - und danach? Bis zur Unendlichkeit und noch viel weiter.
Was langweilt dich zu Tode und was lässt deinen Adrenalinpegel steigen? Fallback-Gifs können für mich problemlos eine Gute Nacht Geschichte ersetzen. Was ist dein aktuelles Objekt der Begierde und was bewegt dich wirklich? Was mich wirklich bewegt?

Senior Strategic Creative Interactive sabine.mayer@parasol-island.com Language: German, English City: Düsseldorf |
Where do you come from, and where are you headed?I started with exhibition and event concepts in agencies in Cologne. Then moved to Berlin and switched to Social Media at TLGG. The last two years I created loads of beauty stuff as Creative Director at Content Cube, a L’Oréal exclusive agency. Right now, I´m looking for some “more masculine projects” and I´d love to push my film skills to the next aesthetic level.
What skills would you bring to the company? How would you want to develop your talents? My superpowers are: creating strategic creative umbrellas and connect good single ideas to a holistic concept, staying calm under high stress level, thinking social – concept wise and team oriented. I´d like to develop myself by finding and connecting the right people at Parasol to learn from each other.
What bores you to death and what ramps up your adrenaline level?People who are just talking about themselves kill my interest. And to ramp my adrenaline frequently I just search for things I´ve never done before. Some weeks ago I started working as a university lecturer and teach “Corporate & Product Branding” at RFH in Cologne.
What’s your current object of desire, and what really moves you? To live a life on which I can look back at the age of 80, sitting in my hover rocking chair and hear me saying: “Lucky me, I´ve just been happy.”
What gadget is indispensable and which application always has a solution? My iWatch has been my most dispensable gadget. I think about buying Alexa, cause even if I love writing I like to find some ways to avoid using my keyboard whole day long. And the most important app for me is Google maps, cause the orientation part is just missing in my brain.
Which website do you visit frequently? Whom do you meet offline? I like a mix of creative tech stuff and social topics, for example t3n and Edition-F are two of my favorites. My friends here in Düsseldorf I try to meet weekly and as often as I can I visit my favorite people in Berlin. Also important, my daily appointment with Lumi & Nati, my kittens with cuteness overload.
What books and music are you enjoying at the moment? I love podcasts. For example “Happy, holy and confident” which is mega mind opening, “Hotel Matze” cause of the inspiring personalities or “Fest und Flauschig” are part of my weekend routine. One of my favorite books is “The Circle” – a future vision about what it means if the whole society acts completely transparent.

Where do you come from, and where are you headed? I’m from the city of Darmstadt, but moved to Berlin 15 years ago. For the past 5 years I lived in Vancouver, Canada to work in the VFX industry. Now I’m back in Berlin to find new, exciting challenges.
What skills would you bring to the company? How would you want to develop your talents? I’m very organized, I’ll bring strong communication and time management skills, a good eye for detail and the constant urge to improve and learn new things. Plus I’d make a great addition to any music quiz team with my obscure knowledge of 90s one hit wonders.
As part of the Parasol family I would love to explore new ways of creating exiting visuals, deepen my technical skills and become a trusted partner for clients and team alike.
What bores you to death and what ramps up your adrenaline level? I’m not easily bored, however if I had to name something I’d probably say egocentric people who only talk about themselves and Formula 1.
Things that never fail to raise my adrenaline levels: Good music... Abbey Road, if I’d had to pick just one album. Ice cream, but please let me choose at least two flavors. Watching good movies and going to film festivals. Good Beer! Still trying to find a brewery that can compete with Canadian craft beer, so please help me out and give me your recommendations if you can.
What’s your current object of desire, and what really moves you?
Probably more of a long term goal, but I would love to buy a camper van. I had one when I lived in Canada, an old 1994 Chevrolet camperized van (“he” was called Van Morrison), and I miss him dearly.
I’m really moved by small acts of kindness and people being nice to one another. I think it’s important but sadly not always natural that we treat each other with respect.
What gadget is indispensable and which application always has a solution? My camera!! My camera and I are glued to the hip. I love taking pictures and exploring places with it. And to go with it, I’d probably say Lightroom... however, I would love to find something better since it doesn’t always have a solution.
What website do you visit frequently? Whom do you meet offline? Instagram... I guess – I’m a sucker for pretty pictures. Also Cee Cee Berlin to keep up with exciting food news and Zeit and Twitter to keep up with all the other news.
I try and meet people offline whenever physics allow!
What books and music are you enjoying at the moment? I’m struggling to finish at least one of three books at the moment, probably none I’d consider a recommendation. A classic that I really love is The Stranger by Albert Camus.
I love music and I listen to a lot of different genres, but at the moment Sir Was and Bill Evans are on heavy rotation on my playlist.

Where do you come from, and where are you headed? I come from a tranquil village near Paderborn called Lippstadt. After stops in the Sauerland and Ruhr region I stranded in Düsseldorf. I finished a master in photography and was working more than two years as a producer in Düsseldorf lately. My next goal is to explore the island step by step.
What skills would you bring to the company? How would you want to develop your talents? Intentness, self-dependance and readiness of mind. I won’t lose my organising abilities even in stressful situations. A strong coffee and black humour are my weapons against chaos taking over. Now I’m open to face new adventures – if you don't go forward, you go backwards.
What bores you to death and what ramps up your adrenaline level? Slow people drive me nuts. I'm almost never bored in my leisure time – and if I that would happen I’d call it luxury.
What’s your current object of desire, and what really moves you?I have no list of objects of desire. If I want something, then it is a very spontaneous decision from the heart. My list of things that I do not need is definitely longer.
What gadget is indispensable and which application always has a solution?Of course my mobile – they say a phantom telephone ping is a widespread disease nowadays – so at least I’m not alone. The internet offers pretty much madness, but also most of the time a solution for everything. My laptop is another favorite gadget: With the silver bullet Photoshop I can solve almost any visual problem.
Which website do you visit frequently? Whom do you meet offline? Facebook and Instagram are probably a lot more than websites. They are the anchor point for social life, stalking instrument and deflection magnet. After the first coffe, ready fore more content, W&V, Lead Digital and Horizont are on my list. Almost forgot Amazon – what would life be without online shopping?
When the batteries of mobile and laptop are empty, I go to the movies, exercise or meet friends.
What books and music are you enjoying at the moment? What are the works you wouldn’t want anyone to miss?
My ebook is full of crime thrillers. Simon Beckett, Stieg Larsson, Cody McFadyen. Currently I read Sebastian Fitzeks "Noah". My playlist is as wild and colorful as my wardrobe, but especially full of Rock and Alternative. Guitars, drums and a handsome bass player - that is music. And: Everyone should see The Black Keys live.

Where do you come from, and where are you headed? I live in Willich, near Düsseldorf with my husband and my two kids. Before I joined Parasol I used to work for McCann Worldgroup and Kunst & Kollegen, both within the finance department.
What skills do you bring to the company? How would you want to develop your talents? I know how to structure myself and how to prioritise my tasks. I am not an expert beeing on center stage, but I know how to assume responsibility of what is important for my job. Furthermore a familiar atmosphere and the team I work with is really important to me.
What bores you to death and what ramps your adrenaline level? There is no certain thing, which makes me bored. I think each situation can bring you further. I like to rethink given structures and to develop new processes, which can make work more efficient..
What's your current object of desire, and what really moves you? Every day brings different events on private and business level, that keeps me moving and staying flexibel and open-minded.
What gadget is indispensable and which application always has a solution? As a mom, my phone is my gadget... to talk to my friends, to organise all appointments around my kids and just to be uptodate.
Which website do you visit frequently? I like to surf on fashion and interior-based websites, like Pinterest, Monoqi and a lot of Blog-websites. But I love to rummage in home improvement stores, especially in the Netherlands.
What books and music are you enjoying at the moment? I like classics from the 1980s and 1990s most. These music gives me power or the mood to relax. Reading books is not one of my favorites..

What skills do you bring to the company? How would you want to develop your talents? If there is a wildcard, I played it right here (tbh – that's the part of an interview I really don't like).
Let‘s see. I‘m motivated as hell and super curious. I love to challenge myself and hope to grow with the island!
What bores you to death and what ramps your adrenaline level? Dump talk vs. dance. Great concerts, beautiful landscapes.

Where do you come from, and where are you headed? I'm from Düsseldorf. As one dream always was living close to the ocean, an island seems to be a pretty good place.
What skills do you bring to the company? How would you want to develop your talents?
I would describe myself as caring and open-minded. I easily get in touch with new people. In everyday work I stay calm, even when things get hectic. And cheerful, for sure.
What bores you to death and what ramps your adrenaline level? Sometimes I am a little impatient, so waiting.. Jap, that bores me.
My adrenaline level rises by driving fast. When I was young, I wanted to be a safety car driver in Formula One as a grown-up. I was always super realistic, that I will not be the real racer, haha, but safety car driver was a thing.
What's your current object of desire, and what really moves you?
Travelling. The world. There are still so many places on my bucket list. Super cheesy, but travelling really makes me happier.
What gadget is indispensable and which application always has a solution?
Google is your friend.
Which website do you visit frequently? Instagram, to be honest. And Google Maps, specially for travelling. But I would always choose offline. Meeting family and friends is the most important thing for me. I can sit for hours drinking coffee (or wine) and spending my time with them.
What books and music are you enjoying at the moment? I love reading thrillers, these kind of books you do not want to put down at all. As well, I really like to dive into other worlds. That ́s why I just started Shantaram by Gregory Roberts. But, saidly to say so, sometimes it's hard to find time for 1140 pages of indian adventures. Especially when you also love to watch movies and can easily get lost in Netflix series.
Music wise, a friend asked me once, if I am an old woman hidden in a (super) young body. haha. Because of the music I am listening to. I love the late 1960's, the 70's and the early 80's. I think mostly because it reminds me of the music my dad recorded on audio-cassettes for his car.

Where do you come from, and where are you headed? I was born and raised in Dusseldorf. Since I’ve just been stranded on the island, I’d just like to stay here.
What skills do you bring to the company? How would you want to develop your talents? I have a penchant for organization, planning and communication. And – who knows what the future will bring?
What bores you to death and what ramps your adrenaline level? I hate waiting! And I’m also suspicious of people who don’t understand my sarcasm. My adrenaline pumps every time my daughter does something that’s too dangerous in my eyes. And riding in a car too fast... On the positive side – music makes be really happy.
What's your current object of desire? A garden!
What gadget is indispensable and which application always has a solution? The weather app and my iPhone.
Which website do you visit frequently? Whom do you meet offline?Google. My kid, my man, my friends.
What books and music are you enjoying at the moment? I love good old House Music. I read for relaxation, so I go for lighter stuff. It’s so light that I don’t remember much of it. But I wouldn’t want to miss classics like The Little Prince and Pippi Longstocking.

Where do you come from, and where are you headed? Born in Haltern am See raised in Dülmen, probably known for a species which does not exist in any other part of Europe. Wild horses in Merfelder Bruch - a flat and broad land with its own appeal, which Goethe called simply ‚the grandeur of the plain‘. I studied in Münster and worked in Frankfurt, Amsterdam, London, Berlin and Munich. I'm not sure what’s next but I could imagine to live in the sunshine state of California. Not sure if this gonna happen but I pretty much like it on the island.
What skills do you bring to the company? How would you want to develop your talents? The first contact went through a headhunter but I know the island from this playful ‚Jades‘ website. Years later I sent a spontaneous application. It’s the will. Not the skill.
What bores you to death and what ramps your adrenaline level? Probably you'll find it out.
What's your current object of desire? A house by the sea.
What gadget is indispensable and which application always has a solution? Still looking for it.
Which website do you visit frequently? Whom do you meet offline? Besides Hypebeast, Vice and other daily dose of inspiration I stumble over onlineshops with expensive things I can't afford. Friends & Family.
What books and music are you enjoying at the moment? Music keeps me alive. Still listening to my old-school Hip Hop vinyls that I kept from DJing back in the 90s. I like electronic music as well and I am always up for a Sven Väth set first row. The last book I read was Inferno.

Where do you come from, and where are you headed? I was born in the south of Düsseldorf but meanwhile I’ve made it to Unterbilk. After working as a car salesman, an account manager in a network agency and a project manager in the public sector, I now want to immerse myself completely in the digital world.
What skills do you bring to the company? How would you want to develop your talents? I love to learn, to organize and to see how things develop. I’m curious about any kind of innovation. I have a variety of interests and hobbies that enable me to view and evaluate things from different angles and to "think outside the box".
What bores you to death and what ramps your adrenaline level? I am bored or annoyed by any form of wasting time. People walking too slowly in front of me, senseless TV shows or the lack of punctuality in public transport (which also ramps my adrenaline level in a negative way). In a positive way: definitely the mountains. Whether it's snowboarding in winter or climbing and mountaineering in summer – there's nothing that can earth me more and inspire me at the same time. Also, my football club, which is responsible for some of the most emotional moments of my life.
What's your current object of desire?
A camper van or a camping bus (suitable for everyday use). After a trip through Norway I'm absolutely thrilled. And what moves me? Well, hopefully soon my camping bus. Otherwise my bicycle and since I live directly in the neighborhood: my legs. And if you want to know what really moves me, come over and have a chat…
What gadget is indispensable and which application always has a solution? "Unfortunately" my smartphone which I use way too often. Otherwise my new cast iron roaster. A real game changer in the kitchen. For solutions I usually ask Google or YouTube but meanwhile also the Parasol Wiki.
Which website do you visit frequently? Whom do you meet offline? Online: zeit, FAZ, rp-online for general news. t3n, OMR, WUV, Horizont etc. for marketing and digital content. 11Freunde, transfermarkt, kicker etc. for sports news. instagram for entertainment.
Offline: My family that also lives all over Düsseldorf, my aunt's dog Cleo and of course my friends.
What books and music are you enjoying at the moment? Sadly my reading activities are currently limited to online articles and cookbooks. My favorite classic book is "Steppenwolf" by Hermann Hesse but I also like stories about the great outdoors like "Into Thin Air" by J. Krakauer and stuff like that. Recommendations are welcome. When it comes to music I am quite versatile and I always love to find new tunes, but mostly I'm into the sound from the 60s, 70s and 80s.

Where do you come from, and where are you headed? Well, in terms of career I’m looking back on 13 years of hustling through all different kinds of agencies. Born and raised in the Münsterland, true Westphalian. Hoping to find a new home here on the Island.
What skills do you bring to the company? How would you want to develop your talents? Call me cross-disciplinary strategist, if you like. Or just: the dude doing this … things. Always taking the broader view and looking for inspiration. So I might fare well here, right?
What bores you to death and what ramps your adrenaline level? I’m not into administrative work. Really not. Not at all. Only the cliché combo of coffee and music makes it tolerable. But feed me with food for thought, leave me to it and things will fall in place. No kidding.
What's your current object of desire, and what really moves you? Cars and bikes move me. Sounds like a cheap joke – but it’s really that simple. Right now I’m wrenching on an old Jeep named Claus. Claus hates me, I guess. Always broken, never working.
What gadget is indispensable and which application always has a solution?None to be honest. Thought about it for a while, seems like the indispensable doesn’t exist yet. Or maybe I’m just getting old.
Which website do you visit frequently? Whom do you meet offline? That must be stanceworks.com, a car thing again. In real life, it’s the typical family & friends situation. Like being surrounded by a bunch of favorite human beings, spending time in bars, kitchens and on concerts.
What books and music are you enjoying at the moment? Attack of nostalgia: read Der Abfall der Herzen, began listening to Muff Potter again, a band of my small-town youth. Try it, you’ll love it. Or hate it. One way or another, let me know, ok?

Where do you come from, and where are you headed? I am from one of the oldest cultural cities called Alexandria, Egypt, which used to be the Paris of the Middle East before the 1980s. Unfortunately, it is no longer the place it once was. One needs to pierce its many veils in order to perceive its Mediterranean, multicultural, dust-covered beauty. Alexandria was the place where I grew up and became an adult. Cologne is the place where I got to know my adult self. My journey ahead, in this city, is still unknown, but the prospects are exhilarating..
What skills do you bring to the company? How would you want to develop your talents? My skills are my passion for editing, film, pictorial nature and music. I would develop these skills through the rigorous, and creative, aesthetic work ethic that this creative one stop shop/film production encourages and expects.
What bores you to death and what ramps your adrenaline level? I am incredibly bored by superficiality; fake people and flakey conversations. My adrenaline spikes and my interest peaks whenever I encounter work by sincerity and a good heart. Thus, I naturally gravitate to the beauty in art, dance, music, and film..
What's your current object of desire, and what really moves you? My objects of desire are not material. I am moved by that which is beautiful in nature, architecture, interior design, dance, poetry, food, music, art, books, etc. In other words I am an Aesthete. I also like the idea of combining different media, sceneries and sounds to create something that might inspire people. Besides the real, some of us tend to see surreal scenes in their heads or dreams; The surreal, in the form of edited films, can be incredibly inspiring as well. When sound and image are brought to work in special ways, they elicit physiological responses, the most important of which are those goose bumps we sometimes get when a work touches us inexplicably. These are powerful moments for me, and I believe they are for others too. And these moments are products of humility, sincerity, and originality –three attributes I look for and value tremendously in both people and their productions.
What gadget is indispensable and which application always has a solution? I try to train myself to renounce the material as much as I can. The only gadget I could hardly do without is some kind of music player. The rest are frills.
Which website do you visit frequently? Whom do you meet offline? Vimeo.com, nitch.com and nowness.com I meet my dance mates during the week. On weekends, I love meeting up with close friends in cafes over coffee and banana bread. I also relish the breeze of summer nights with good company. As of late, I too often find myself falling asleep on the couch..
What books and music are you enjoying at the moment? What are the works you wouldn’t want anyone to miss? I listen to Lambert x, Ben Lukas Boysen, James Horner, Nils Frahm, Redspencer,
L';Impératrice,, Men I trust, Public Memory (thank Alexandre), Agar Agar, Somfay, Lockhart, Paradis, Cigarettes after sex, Soft hair, Metronomy, Au revoir Simone, Small Black, Sebastien Tellier, Manor, Röyskopp, Oum Kalthoum, Mashrou3 Leila,
the list is endless. There are many talented persons these days. Lately, I enjoy reading books that require deep and critical thinking, such as “40 Rules of Love” by Elif Shafak (Don’t miss that one!); “the Essentials of Sufism” by Robert Frager and James Fadiman, although I do not fully agree with their selfless theories because human beings are not designed like angels; “A Thousand Splendid Suns” by Khaled Hosseini; works by Khalil Gibran; and a mysterious, metaphorical Arabic book full of beautiful aesthesis, which is misinterpreted by the majority and misused for political ends in my opinion. Of this last book: I read between its lines once every year of my life, in an effort to understand its magical logic, but also to think and rethink its messages according to the modern world we now live in.
